Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Future?
The charity Future was established by Lord John Nash and his wife, Caroline, in 2005, with the aim of supporting children and young people from less-advantaged backgrounds. Today, Future Academies supports 11 schools across London and Hertfordshire, including a primary free school set up by the organisation itself. Future also supports several other charities, including OnSide and the Social Mobility Foundation.
What Does the Social Mobility Foundation Do?
The Social Mobility Foundation aims to create opportunities, broaden horizons and unlock the potential of young people. The charity’s Aspiring Professionals programme is designed to nurture the confidence and knowledge and build the networks of high–achieving young people, helping to ensure those with potential can access professional opportunities.
What Is Future Academies’ Vision?
Future Academies aims to offer every student the freedom to live a self-determined, meaningful life via access to a disciplined, intellectually rigorous and enriching education.
What Does Future Academies Mean by ‘Educational Enrichment’?
Future Academies places educational enrichment at the heart of its offer, believing that enrichment is a crucial part of a well-rounded education rather than an optional extra. The organisation’s enrichment programme focuses on four key areas. These are providing access to culture, sport and the arts; connecting students to the world of further education, training, work, and employment; enriching the curriculum; and building character, resilience, judgement and integrity.
Does Future Academies Offer Residential Trips?
Future Academies offers guaranteed enrichment opportunities to all pupils at various points in their academic journey. Every student is given the chance to participate in two residentials, one by the end of Key Stage 2 and one residential during Key Stage 3. These are designed to build confidence, independence, resilience and teamwork skills, all of which are essential for life beyond the classroom.
What Are Latin Excellence Partnerships?
Future Academies works in partnership with schools outside of its group through its Latin Excellence Partnerships. The programme has increased the number of disadvantaged students studying GCSE Latin in non-selective schools outside of the South East and the East of England and London, while also improving GCSE Latin attainment within the state sector.
What Does the Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation Do?
The Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation (RNCSF) exists to improve social mobility via access to excellent educational opportunities. The organisation works with the country’s state boarding and independent schools to broaden access to fully funded bursary places for the children who most need it, including children with experience of the care system and those from underserved communities. Lord John Nash is an adviser to the RNCSF.
